Authentic Maille Rings

During my visit to London in November of 2000, Mr. Simon Metcalf graciously invited me to visit the conservation laboratories of the Victoria and Albert Museum, where he is a Senior Metals Conservator.  In addition to providing me with extensive copies of documentation on maille that I had never before seen, he also sent me home with a few authentic ring specimens!

I have taken digital microscopic pictures of these rings for you to view:

Ring 1:
14th - early 15th century riveted ring
Ring 2:
Brass riveted ring from the Thames River.  Possibly 16th century.
Ring 3:
Possible 16th century riveted ring.
Ring 4:
Late 14th - early 15th century welded ring.
